Discover the Magic of Avebury: A Hidden Treasure in Wiltshire

The village of Avebury is a place like no other, nestled into the peaceful landscape of Wiltshire's rolling hills. It’s peaceful, charming, and surrounded by some of the most remarkable prehistoric landmarks in the world. Whether you’re a history lover, a countryside wanderer, or simply looking to slow down and recharge, Avebury has something deeply special to offer.

At Longstones Avebury, our luxury holiday barns are just a few minutes' walk from the world-famous Stone Circle, the perfect place to settle in and explore it all.

Step Into History

The Avebury Stone Circle is the largest in the world, dating back more than 4,000 years. Unlike Stonehenge, you can actually walk through and around the stones here, giving you an up-close experience of this ancient landscape. The circle itself is part of a wider UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it sits right at the heart of the village. Imagine enjoying a coffee from the nearby café or a cold beer from the Red Lion pub, all while soaking up views of this incredible monument just across the road.

Explore More Ancient Wonders and Local Towns

Avebury is just the beginning. Within walking distance of the village are other remarkable sites that make this part of Wiltshire so unique. There’s nearby Silbury Hill, an ancient man-made mound with its origins and purpose still largely a mystery despite decades of study. Or West Kennet Long Barrow, one of the UK’s best-preserved Neolithic tombs, where you can step inside ancient chambers that have stood for thousands of years. You can also follow The Avenue, an ancient path once lined with stones leading from the circle out into the beautiful countryside.

Beyond the stones and hills, there’s a lot to explore nearby. The market town of Marlborough is a short drive away, full of independent shops, cafes, and restaurants. Devizes, with its canals and historic buildings, also makes for a lovely afternoon out. And when it’s time to refuel, there are plenty of cosy pubs and farm shops dotted throughout the countryside.

Names Rooted in History

At Longstones Avebury, we’ve taken inspiration from the landscape that surrounds us—so much so that each of our barns is named after the ancient landmarks they overlook.

Windmill Hill gazes out towards its Neolithic namesake, a prehistoric causewayed enclosure and the largest of its kind in Britain.

Horslip takes its name from one of the oldest long barrows in the area, nestled into the farmland belonging to the property. Quiet, timeless, and full of mystery, it feels like a direct link to the past.

Kennet and Ridgeway are named after two more local landmarks, both visible from the barns themselves. West Kennet Avenue, a remarkable ancient path once lined with standing stones, leads from the stone circle out into open countryside. The Ridgeway, Britain’s oldest road, can be seen on the horizon from the rear courtyard, offering sweeping views of the surrounding countryside.

Lastly, Adam & Eve are named after the two standing stones situated on our farm, echoed in our company logo and firmly rooted in the story of this land.
