Setting & Vision
Set within the Avebury World Heritage Site, Longstones transformation is a masterclass in sensitive design and interpretation. Once a redundant farmyard, the site now hosts six beautifully crafted holiday barns, breathing new life into its historic footprint while respecting the Outstanding Universal Value of this globally significant landscape.

Architecture & Heritage
The architecture draws deeply from the farm’s evolution. Historic maps and photographs informed a design that acknowledges the original courtyard form and agricultural character. Two barns are created within the oldest surviving building, its brick and Sarson stone walls retained and enhanced with a reinstated pitched roof, echoing its past life as a stable. Four new single-storey barns complement this heritage, their contemporary forms inspired by traditional farm structures. Varied roof pitches and a palette of timber, stone, and profiled steel reference the site’s DNA, ensuring the buildings feel rooted yet unmistakably of their time.
Interpretation extends beyond architecture into the landscape. The grounds are deliberately informal, with wildflower meadows, native trees, and an orchard creating a relaxed, biodiverse setting. Meandering paths connect the units to a communal area - a contemplative space that invites guests to engage with the site’s story, enriching the visitor experience.
Sustainability
Sustainability underpins the design, with high insulation, triple glazing, EV charging and air-source heat pumps reducing environmental impact. Car parking is screened within a reimagined agricultural structure, preserving views and reinforcing the sense of place.
Longstones is more than a holiday destination; it is a thoughtful dialogue between past and present—a celebration of heritage through architecture and landscape that enhances the character of Avebury while creating a lasting legacy for future generations.
